Marine Antifouling & Paint Removal |
Atlantic Problast offers
Marine Antifouling Blast Cleaning. Substrates we are able to blast include steel, wood, concrete and fibreglass. |
Blast cleaning of marine antifouling paint is very effective and offers the following benefits –
very fast removals (hours not days), less labour intensive than hand sanding, no harmful chemical strippers required, light
osmosis is opened up for repair, the entire boat bottom has an even finish more receptive to recoating and best of all the
medias are environmentally friendly products.
OUR RATES ARE HOURLY AS EVERY BOAT
IS DIFFERENT, the actual cost of the antifouling removal is dependant on the size/location/accessibility of the boat, the
type and amount of the coating to be removed. Please note that blast cleaning with these medias is extremely dusty and noisy.
Please check with the marina and or property owner where the boat is located to see if blasting is permitted.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION
-Minimum hourly rates are applicable, contact us for details.
-To roughly estimate the cost per boat –
general antifouling removal runs between $20 and $50 per foot of boat length. Factors which effect the duration of the blasting
type are the type of boat, size of boat, type of coating to be removed (antifouling, tar coat, epoxy), amount of layers on
the boat, accessibility of the boat bottom, condition of the coating, the condition of the substrate, etc. The more coats
the longer it will take to remove.
-The blasting will leave an even matte finish which is easily inspected for
repairs, light osmosis on the surface will generally be opened up. This even finish is much more uniform than hand sanding
and is usually more receptive to replacement coatings.
-Due to the chemical nature of these medias and possible
reactions with numerous substrates on the boats (gelcoat, fiberglass, wood, aluminum, steel, paint, canvas, ect.)
- no warranty is expressed or implied.
-IT IS THE BOAT OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY TO THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE ENTIRE
BOAT AFTER BLASTING AS STAINING OF THE FINISH CAN OCCUR IF THE DEBRIS IS NOT REMOVED – NO WARRANTY IS EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,
WE ASSUME NO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGE NO MATTER HOW CAUSED.
-The boat owner is required to have the boat located somewhere
UNOBTRUSIVE to other boats and neighbours and must have the marina or property owner’s permission for any blasting to
take place – we may request digital pictures of the area you wish to blast in be forwarded to us prior to booking. If
in a marina please forward name and phone number of the marina so we may obtain verbal authorization prior to booking.
-The blasting is extremely loud and dusty, most of the medias we use are friable (breaks on contact) forming very
fine dust that travels easily and can be difficult to contain. The boat owner is responsible to make sure the boat is sealed
(to prevent dust from entering the cabin area). The boat owner is responsible for tarping the boat if desired, for ground
tarps if required by the property owner, and for post blast cleanup of the boat being blasted and any neighbouring boats affected
by the blasting. We will provide wash equipment on site free of charge for this purpose. WE will TARP for a nominal extra
fee
-The coating will be removed to within 1-2 inches of the top perimeter of the coating unless otherwise requested.
If the owner wishes to tape the perimeter of the coating there should be at least ½” of minimum depth of overlap
of the tape (duct style tape is preferable).
-The boat must be thoroughly WASHED (soap, brushed and pressure rinsed)
once blasting is completed. We will rinse if requested but the proper cleaning and or nuetralization of the debris is the
BOAT OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY. Please refer to the boat manufacturer and or coatings manufacturer for the recommended cleaning
procedures, we suggest a very mild acidic cleaning solution to clean post blast (boat wash, citric acid, vinegar, etc. diluted
in water).
-Any boats, vehicles, etc. in the immediate area will also require thorough washing, this is the responsibility
of the boat owner. We assume no responsibility for dust and or debris which enters the cabin area of the boat or of any other
boats in the vicinity. We assume no responsibility for damage or cleanup of any dust/debris on any other boats, vehicles,
ground or building in the area of the blasting operations.
-Older boats with porous substrates – compromised
gelcoat, osmosis, preexisting damage, areas where finish worn thru, etc. are susceptible to staining. Occasionally the blast
debris (blast media, antifouling coatings, moisture in air) will react with the material in the gelcoat and or fiberglass
to cause staining. WE ASSUME NO LIABILITY IF STAINING OCCURS, NO MATTER WHAT THE CAUSE! If your boat is aged or in obvious
disrepair we may request a written release and or waiver to be signed – you may want to consider other methods of removal!
